Sound City are proud to host the endearing Edwyn Collins at the 2015 conference as a key note speaker.
Best known for his time in 1980 alternative rock band Orange Juice and his well received solo career. Edwyn scored his biggest hit with A Girl Like You in 1995, reaching top 5 in the UK and top 40 on the US Billboard 100. The track featured in the Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and the Empire Records soundtrack, M&S advert and covered by The Black Keys on their tour last year.
Ten years ago Edwyn was admitted to hospital having suffered two severe cerebral haemorrhages. Edwyn was left unable to walk, read, write or talk and has had one of the most miraculous comebacks the music industry has seen. Edwyn’s stroke heavily affected the language and speech part of his brain, however the musical part was intact, learning basic skills again with therapy and support from family. After a six month stay in the hospital Edwyn returned to the studio mixing his sixth solo album Home Again.
Edwyn began touring again in 2007 and in 2010 released Losing Sleep which featured fresh new songs with amazing appearances from Alex Kapranos (Franz Ferdinand), Romeo Stodart (Magic Numbers), Johnny Marr and many more. Understated, Edwyn’s eighth solo album, was released in 2013 through his own label AED Records.
Edwyn is also bringing his film The Possibilities Are Endless to the 2015 conference; narrated by Edwyn, we are trapped inside his mind which has been devastated by his haemorrhage. The film will show how Edwyn’s inspiring wife Grace pulls him back to life- join their life affirming exploration of love, health, music and life.
Edwyn is still recording, producing and writing, we are ecstatic to feature Edwyn as a key note speaker at this years conference. Come along to hear his inspiring story and hear insight into his time as a successful music and television producer, record label owner and hit musician.
