Festivals, festivals. John kicked off working as one of the first journalists and photographers on the emerging VirtualFestivals website way back in the dawn of the internet. However, alongside writing duties he rapidly became responsible for most of the site's event activity in the world of real festivals and events. His first major break was being asked to programme a night at Glastonbury's LeftField. The next year he was stage manager, and the year after that he booked the whole tent. When The Great Escape started he was one of the first independent promoters to set up a fringe venue (grabbing the prime real estate at the end of the pier for a set of hand-picked independent artist showcases). Since then he's moved between a wide range of different festival projects, including for the last six or so years being the booker for the bandstand stage at Beautiful Days. He's also run two of the countries biggest Oxjam events in Croydon, South London, and he's just been taken on by the local council to set up a new four-day city centre festival for the town, appropriately enough called 'Ambition'.
