FLYING THROUGH SPACE ON A PLATE OF CRAYONS.
The Floormen are four piece outfit hailing from Liverpool.
The band formed in late 2013 after spending their early teenage years in various oufits, learning their craft and picking up tips that would prove invaluable in the future. The last year has seen them progress beyond their own confines and evolve at an alarming rate in the ensuing 12 months. Taking Inspiration from bands such as the last fifty years of out there, sonic experimentation, The Floormen have a wide and range of influences, from the lysergic throb of Echo & The Bunnymen to the perennial funkengroove of Talking Heads to the long-range meanderings of Can and the Grateful Dead. This combined with a range of new sounds and directions to create fresh, new jams and grooves that show their presence and self, whilst being influenced by the past, is firmly rooted in the present, with an eye on the future.
The Floormen released their first EP ‘Back To Obscurity’ in November 2014 to great acclaim locally, and indeed garnered some favourable words from the global psych community. The EP disappeared into the ether as soon as it was created, causing a ripple in the force that spurred on their latest creative blast. Not ones to rest on their laurels, they are already working on their next offering, taking the band in yet another uncharted direction.
The Floormen have already become regular fixtures on the exciting Liverpool live scene, including supports and props from the likes of the Paperhead, the Men, Kelley Stoltz, Fresh & Onlys, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard among others. They completed a January residency at the city’s much revered, sound food and drink, showcasing their panoramic influences and ideas. Tipped as one of getintothis’ They are currently setting up gigs and events for spring and summer 2015, including a performance at this year’s Threshold Festival. They will also be appearing at Liverpool Sound City 2015 and next year’s Psychfest. Later in the year will see their inclusion on Cleopatra Records’ four-disc history of space-rock box set.
